James Crofutt - Civilian Newspaper Impression

Reenactor Volunteer at Shoal Creek Living History Museum near Liberty MO. - Town Newspaper for 1st Saturday's program

G.A.R. Post # 595 - Shoal Creek MO.

After the Civil War a Veterans organization emerged in the north for those who had served in the Union Army. It was known as the "Grand Army of the Republic"  or G.A.R. and it became a highly recognized public organization and even a voting block in the latter 19th Century Politics.  Never the less just about every town had a G.A.R. Post made up of veterans of the Civil War.  Although many of the Re-enactor Volunteers at Shoal Creek are of the Confederate Service there are a handful of us in the town who did  our duty and fought to preserve the Union.  We of course want to establish our own G.A.R. Post at the town of  Shoal Creek.  Researching back we found that the last official Missouri G.A.R. camp was Post #594 so we are creating G.A.R. Camp # 595 for the town of Shoal Creek.  Our Union Brothers will Rally together as much as possible in this post war impression and we hope to explore this post war impression some and how we can better portray G.A.R. members in our town and skits.  More to come on this idea...
